3 Things the Movie Soul and Your Money Have in Common - Elaine King - Family and Money Matters

«I’m just afraid that if I died today my life would have amounted to nothing.»

Have you ever felt like this?

This is a line that Joe says when speaking to his mother about joining a band. He’s ready to take the plunge and make a big change in his life that he feels will bring meaning to his life.

This sweet and touching movie can teach us all a few lessons about our finances and how we can grow our money to serve ourselves and our world in the most positive and profitable ways possible. At the same time, we can make sure that we don’t feel like our lives have amounted to nothing.

How?

1. Listen to Your Heart, Not Others

Joe listened to his heart and followed his passion of becoming a jazz musician, even when his own mother didn’t support him completely. We are energy! We must direct our efforts toward what we want to manifest in real life. Joe finally learned this lesson throughout his journey with the soul 22 and discovering the meaning of life again.

The same is true with money. There is a unique purpose for money that you must discover. In other words, you must invest in what’s important to you, not the latest trend. For example, if you are a big environmentalist, why not invest in green technologies? You can grow your money by making a positive change in the world. By focusing on your money’s purpose and the possibilities it has to transform the world, you live out your own life’s purpose.

2. Helping Others Will Help You

Joe helps the soul 22 find her way to life on Earth. It’s thanks to this journey of helping someone else that Joe is able to find his way in life. This is true for so many people!

Have you ever felt like your life acquires greater meaning by helping others? Whether you volunteer, mentor someone, lead your children, or make charitable donations, all of these ways of helping can bring purpose to your life.

3. Enjoy Experiences and Aim for Long-Term Goals

Be like 22 and enjoy the simple pleasures in life! Enjoy experiences! Listen and dance to that song on the radio. Spend time with loved ones, have conversations, and go on walks together.

It’s important to understand that once basic financial needs are met, more money doesn’t necessarily make you happier. In part, that’s because sometimes it can be stressful to earn more money. Or, we don’t always spend our money in the ways that will make us the happiest.

Instead, find other ways to spend your money that will maximize your happiness. For example, you can ensure a stable financial future by saving for your retirement. Or, you can help change the world by donating to charitable causes. This can help you feel good about yourself and bring you greater happiness than if you spend the money on yourself. Impact investments are another positive way to spend money for long-term gains that also make a positive difference in the world.

Ultimately, money, like our lives, has the energy and direction that we give it. By reflecting and using our money wisely, we can give meaning to our whole lives!
